Token approvals and wallet permissions

Learn what a token approval permits and why an approval is different from a token transfer.

What happens when I approve a token?

A token approval can authorize another address or smart contract to move a defined amount of a token on your behalf. The approval transaction may not transfer tokens immediately, but the permission can remain active until it is used, expires by contract logic, or is revoked.

Three things to verify

  1. Read the spender address and permitted amount.
  2. Avoid unlimited approval when a smaller allowance is sufficient.
  3. Never share a seed phrase or private key to inspect or revoke an approval.
