Ethereum gas fees, explained

Learn what Ethereum gas pays for, why fees change, and what to verify before submitting a transaction.

What is Ethereum gas?

Gas measures the computational work required to process an Ethereum transaction. The fee combines the work used with network pricing; it is paid for execution, not to guarantee that a transaction will achieve your intended result.

Three things to verify

  1. Confirm the network before submitting.
  2. Review the estimated network fee separately from the amount sent.
  3. Treat unusually urgent instructions as a reason to pause and verify.
